Homicide Investigation
Investigators worked night and day over the holiday weekend due to a stabbing that resulted in a death. Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit and our Crime Scene Unit changed and cancelled plans with friends and family so they could bring about justice in this case. While there has not been an arrest yet, I have been following their hard work and dedication and am very appreciative of their efforts.

Facebook is an amazing tool for getting the word out. The Duluth Police Facebook page surpassed 5,000 friends today. Over the last five days we've had over 27,000 folks look at it. While it is good on one hand, we have found that it spreads and perpetuates rumors like nothing else. Much of the rumors of school violence in recent weeks has been tracked back to Facebook.

Santa with Assault Rifle and Bullet Proof Vest
From Newser.com
Criminals in a Canadian city will be receiving an unexpected Christmas card this year ... from the police chief. The card being sent out this week to "prolific offenders, property offenders, and persons known for drug and gang activity" feature the chief wearing a Santa suit (and a bulletproof vest and helmet) and packing automatic weapons. "Which list will you be on next year?" it asks, and inside there's a number to call if the card manages to inspire any of the recipients to switch on over to the "nice" list and turn his or her life around.

Abbotsford has one of the worst crime problems in Canada, the AFP explains. It had one of the highest numbers of murders per capita in 2008 and 2009, although safety has been improving since then.
